SIXEL Staff It's Girl Scout cookie time - in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sometime over the next few weeks, depending on shipping schedules, U.S. soldiers will be biting into their own stash of Thin Mints, Thanks-A-Lots and Lemonades. The lawyers, secretaries and paralegals at Haynes and Boone ordered nearly 1,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies so soldiers stationed overseas will have a little taste of home. Besides Iraq and Afghanistan, cookies are going to Kosovo; Bosnia; Djibouti; Kuwait; and Qatar. "The first year we hardly sent any Thin Mints because we were worried about the chocolate melting," said Donene Olmstead, a legal secretary in the bankruptcy section and coordinator of Operation Girl Scout Cookies for the Troops. "But we got more excitement about the Thin Mints than anything else." Now she makes sure the firm orders a variety of everything the Girl Scouts sell. Where it all started
