SyllabusSLS1510 – College Success and CareerDevelopmentFall 2019Shakonda Murray DiggsEmail:[email protected]Phone Number: 850-201-6597Office Location HSS 216Office HoursMonday-Friday10:00 am-10:30 am and 1:30 pm-2:30 virtual hours.Monday- Friday available by appointment as well.*Email is the preferred way of contact.Course DescriptionSLS 1510- College Success (3 credit hours) FA SP SUThis course is designed to build and reinforce skills necessary for college and career success.Topicsinclude:motivation, goal setting, learning styles, time management techniques, test-taking skills,classrooms skills.The course also covers topics such as wellness, interpersonal relationships,financial management, conflict resolution and choosing a Meta-major.Course PrerequisitesThere are no prerequisites for this course.General Education Learning OutcomesStudent will apply critical and creative thinking skills to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize ideas.Students will demonstrate an understanding of diverse perspectives and their influence onindividual, social, historical, and political events or on cultural expression.
Students will demonstrate effective information literacy skills by locating, evaluating, andeffectively and ethically using information to achieve an academic or professional purpose.Social Science Learning OutcomesStudents will analyze various social science concepts to demonstrate an understanding of social,cultural and political structures.Students will compare and contrast the findings from various social science specializations toexplain diverse perspectives and their influence on social, cultural, political and economic globalevents.Students will apply social science theories and research findings to individual and groupexperiences.Students will demonstrate effective information literacy skills by locating information usingappropriate tools, in an ethical manner, from sources which are reliable, relevant andauthoritative, such that the process expands and deepens their understanding of the subjectmatter.QEP: Digital Focus Learning OutcomesStudents will find, operate and/or utilize digital tools for academic and professionalpurposes.Students will use digital tool(s) to create, modify, and/or organize content.Students will use digital tool(s) and/or communicate content effectivelyCourse Learning OutcomesThe goal of this course is to assist students in learning academic, personal, and career skills, which willhelp them to be successful in college and in the world of work.
