Amino acids are building blocks of proteins (Lawrenson, 2005). Athletes must have protein to build or repair muscles. Amino acids also relate to the energy, recovery, mood, brain function, muscle and strength gains, and also in our quest for fat loss. The cause of muscle growth is exercise, hormones and nutrients. BCAAs are the essential aminos leucine, isoleucine, and valine which are high in amino acids. When training the best time to get amino acids is immediately after the workout. That is when the muscle is especially receptive to nutrients and also blood flow to the exercised muscles that still remain high. If you are involved in athletics and want to maximize how well you perform and decrease recovery time following workouts then you need to be getting enough protein in your diet.
