Incident 2-2 2 1. What do you think of Mack’s approach to solving his problem? Mack’s creativity with the involvement of the staff was ingenious. By placing the decision in the hands of those it would most effect may bring about the best of solutions. The seminar that he attended should be given to all supervisors. Mack has tremendous respect for those employed by Quality Shoes to even ask for their input. 2. How would you go about the task if you were Ralph? Not having the knowledge of the seminar that was attended by Mack, I would start by releasing the employees that had poor evaluations. If I had to cut even more, I would do a temporary layoff of those last hired. Since all this is might be a brief situation, I would state that the

What do you think Mack should do if he doesn’t think that the group’s decision is reasonable? If the employees do not come up with a satisfactory solution, Mack should implement the temporary layoffs, releasing of poor evaluation employees, and ask if there is any employees that are close to retirement age if they would like to take an early retirement. On the other hand, if Mack can use some of the solution given by the group, he should implement those portions he can to keep the respect of the employees. Maintaining respect will ensure a smooth transition....
