Genericville Malathion Decision The assessment of malathion brought great surprise, along with the information that was obtained from the research. After researching, and reviewing the information, I have come to the decision that I will vote against the use of malathion in Genericville. I firmly believe that the hazards that surround this pesticide outweigh the help that it could bring our town. When research was conducted to test the risk of malathion causing potential birth defects, The New York State Health Department reported, “Although adverse developmental effects occurred in offspring of laboratory animals when they were given high amounts of malathion during pregnancy (New York State Health Department, 2009, ¶ 8).” The risk of this decision today, possibly causing a horrible outcome, later down the road, is a reason that I can not possibly, in clear conscience, vote to approve the use of malathion.
