1 ELEC5403- Radio Frequency Design Lab 6 Transistor S - parameters The aim of this lab is to measure the S parameters of a BFR90 transistor at 100 MHz and to compare your results with published data. Typical values for the BFR90 are included below. Key development phases: 1. Design and construction of a 50 ohm microstrip line 2. Design of quarter wave short circuit stub ( short circuit parallel coax line) Attach to input port and check that the stub is “invisible” at your design frequency. Use slotted line, Vector Voltmeter or Network Analyser. 3. Replacement of short circuit end of stub with the smallest capacitor you can find. Check that the capacitor and stub are “invisible”. 4. Connect an identical stub and capacitor to the output port. Repeat tests as in 2 above. 5. Determine bias arrangements for the transistor. 6. Mounting of the transistor 7. Short circuit and through line calibration of the test platform. 8.
