Technology Impact 2 Due to electronic banking, costumers in the world today are facing the theft of their identity, fraud, and Web site phishing problems. To aid in controlling the privacy of customer information, which is personal and to help guarantee accurate information across the internet, management of financial institutions have to take steps to develop security standards on a website, which allows the management team to continuously monitor and evaluate customer information for security. Recently there have been numerous increases in the programs, which are malicious that are designed solely to record the activity that is carried out on a computer. The malicious programs are programmed to attempt to perform a screen scrape, which is the technique where a program extracts and records the data from the output display of a program due to activity, which is based on mouse clicks and keystrokes that are made on a keyboard. Programs that perform screen scrapes are not common; however most experts do agree that these types of programs are beginning to be more common. A software company for Web site security named Websense Inc., has noticed an increase in the number of screen scrapings that has been occurring recently across the internet. The increase in screen scrapings has mainly been seen in the country of Brazil and other countries located in South America. Another method, which is used to perform a screen scraping, is through the use of a program called a Trojan horse. This type of program will wait until a user on a machine that is infected visits an internet banking site, and the program will then record the mouse and keyboard activity that is used on that site. The criminal that is in control of the Trojan horse program can then spy on the user interactions with the internet banking site (Roberts, 2005). Banks have made an effort to place controls on this type of illegal activity. The banks have designed websites, which combine typed information and mouse clicks such as passwords and user names. The management team of these banks must constantly control and monitor any
