Yilan Shi Linkage – Chp 5 Genetics by Hartl ~ Mon, Feb-2-2009 lec Abbrev: r = recombination frequency (0-1 decimal) RF – recomb freq, word (own abbrev ) P = parental (geno)types R=recombination geno(types) on chromosome Vocab: Linkage : genes that are transmitted toget. Incomplete b/c homologous chrom recombine Parental genotype : alleles on orig chromosom Recombinant genot : new alleles, not in order on orig parent chromosomes Freq/probab of recombintn ~ Map distance Genetic map: show relative distances of genes on a chrom. Genes w/ RF less than 50% are linked Genes w/ RF = 50% = not on homologues, or farther than 50 mu apart. EX: 1000 progeny, 250 progeny w/ both alleles X genes A & B LINKED! 250 x 2= 500, that’s half of 1000. So RF = 50% Syntenic genes = on same chromosome – can be linked or NOT To find # progeny classes= 2^(# heteroz genes) If Heterozygous for 2 genes (mutant +/+ mut), 2 config possible on homologous chrom’s: Cis (coupling): mutant alleles on diff Trans (repulsn) mutant alleles on same Cis, Trans config not change RF X 2 test for Linkage: Hypothesis: r= 0.5
