Unformatted text preview: However, the situation had changed after the 17 th century, when the society started to be an aristocractic one. At that time, the dominance of the husband over the wife is broken for the first time. The social status and power of the wife rose and was almost equal to that of the husband. Women determined social opinion to a high degree. After the Industrial Revolution, as men and women started to work in factories separately, the family structure had changed. Before, men were the one who earn all household income, but afterwards, men and women shared the burden. As women had the ability to be independent from men, their social status rose rapidly. This is totally different from how women were treated in the 16 th century. To conclude, the socio-economic change of a society did influence the attitude towards the relations between men and women a lot in the European history, especially after the 16 th century.
