Objective To determine surface tension of a 50,000ppm NaCl solution, condensate hydro carbon sample and common hydraulic oil as well as the effects of surfactants on water using a Du Nouy Ring and TEMCO Rod lab testing equipment. II. Synopsis Free energy is the energy that creates surface tension where by it acts on the molecules of compounds and creates a tension around the compound. Due to the high surface tension between the two compounds, this free energy keeps the oil and water from mixing. Only when a surfactant is used is this free energy lowered enough to allow the oil and water to mix. When oil and water enter this state a thick, highly viscous liquid is
