It was kind of interesting to read it though I never knew that suicide was the eleventh leading cause of deaths. I thought that it would be closer as in the top five reasons of death. “A common prison practice is to place suicidal inmates in observation rooms, after removing any item that may be used for the purpose of self-harm.”(Page 21 article 3 USING TRAINED INMATE OBSERVERS FOR SUICIDE WATCH). The prisoner is also watched more closely as there every move is by closed circuit television, nursing staff stopping by every 15 minutes, the correctional officers stopping by every 15 minutes, as well as direct observation. With the ways that the prisons watch over suicidal prisoners they are less likely to commit suicide while they are in prison. According to the statistics the prisoners that went in there for psychotic moods went down after post IOP.
