Gina Acevedo Bus 101-08 2/1/08                     “Why Americans Are Going Broke”        The following article from newsweek.com explores the implications behind  the passing of Congress’ economic stimulus plan via an interview with Stuart  Vyse, the author of “Going Broke: Why Americans Can’t Hold on to Their  Money”. The author of this article, Jennifer Barrett, goes into detail about how the  average household owes more than it makes annually and how personal savings  are at an all-time low. Foreclosures in the real estate market are also providing a  hefty punch, simply because people can’t afford to pay their mortgages along  with increasing property taxes. The American economy isn’t doing much better in  itself. With the stock market’s fluctuating daily standings and the passing of the  new stimulus package, it’s estimated that the US federal deficit will be around
