Jinxing Xiao Summary of CourseCast of the Week In this week course cast talks about today's criminal hackers. This is a method for hackers to make money is to engineer systems that spew out illegal spam in a manner that is untraceable. Another method is to create bogus user accounts on Web services like Yahoo and Gmail, and use them to send spam. In order to get rid of the automated account generators, the hackers have to use engineered software to automate the process of creating accounts on Web services which is called “CAPTCHA”. CAPTCHA which means “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart." For example, a Vietnamese security company discovered a worm and it has changed its name to Gaptcha that infects PCs for the purpose of setting up some useless gmail accounts. It sends the image of the contorted letters, to a remote server for deciphering. Later, the useless account was generated. With this, many infected PCs creating gmail accounts and linked them to a central server, hackers are able to create large spamming
