BIS 104 PQ #7 COP Ia is a protein that is found in the cytoplasm of most eukaryotic cells. Investigators desiring to know more about the function of this protein decided to isolate and purify the protein from HeLa cells. HeLas are an immortal line of human cancer cells that are easily grown in large quantities cell culture. In describing their procedures, these investigators claimed that they were able to obtain 30 micrograms (ug) of pure COP Ia from 1 x 10 9 HeLa cells and that, on average, each HeLa cell contained approximately 6 x 10 5 molecules of COP Ia.
