POSITION ARGUMENT:I would argue that the lack of affordable housing is a major factor for the homeless population here in Salt Lake City. This not only affects the homeless community but the Salt Lake community as a whole. Everyone should be concerned about this issue. This issue lead to many people becoming homeless, but also the ones that are not currently homeless are struggling. PROPOSAL:During my research I have come across some effective approaches and solutions for the affordable housing issue. One of these includes bring awareness to the issue to the public. Yes, people see the homeless every day, but what they don’t see is all the things they went through to get there. I believe educating them on these things would help bring awareness to the homeless so that we may look towards solving the issues related to it such as lack of affordable housing. EVALUATION: Everyone knows homelessness is an issue, but they just see the surface and believe that they are just lazy. A couple of things we could educate the community on is what these homeless people
went through to get at that point. These groups of homeless people can consist of the following people. Victims that have experienced domestic violence and people with mental illness. These people make up the largest subsets of Utah’s homeless population. When they created a study, they found that 961 of the people experiencing homelessness in Utah were victims of domestic violence. (1)“As of January 2019, Utah had an estimated 2,798 experiencing homelessness on any given day, as reported by Continuums of Care to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Of that Total, 260 were family households, 211 were Veterans, 163 were unaccompanied
