TO: HA 255 Students FROM: Stephani Robson, Lecturer, Property Asset Management, with the assistance of Craig Snow, Senior Lecturer, Managerial Communication DATE: September 20, 2002 SUBJECT: Business report format basics Following are some guidelines to help you create and format a report. If you have never written a business report—or received any instruction in writing one—you may find that these guidelines allay some apprehension you may have as you approach your homework assignments for HA 255. The guidelines that follow address frequently-asked questions from students unfamiliar with business reports. The first segment, which provides the absolute basics, should serve the needs of those students who simply want to know the rules that will help them format this assignment properly. The subsequent segments, which provide more detailed discussion, should serve the needs of those students who seek a broader understanding of the underlying principles for these types of reports. What can you do to make your message inviting and easy to process? When the communication situation causes you to create a message of any significant length or substance—i.e., beyond a paragraph or two—you should try to make your message reader- friendly: inviting and easy to process. You can make your messages reader-friendly by using conventional structure and document-design features.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
