Psych 1167: Exam 1 Study Guide *Note: I’ve decided to make the exam multiple choice, so you will not need to draw graphs on the exam. However, you will still need to be able to construct frequency distributions and interpret them, as well as interpret different types of graphs, in order to correctly answer many of the questions. The following is a list of important topics that you should study in preparation for the exam. 1. I will give you descriptions of studies and you will need to be able to recognize and know the difference between the following: a. Sample vs. Population b. Statistic vs. Parameter c. Descriptive Statistics vs. Inferential Statistics d. Independent Variable vs. Dependent Variable e. Experimental vs. Observation Studies f. Discrete vs. Continuous Variables 2. I will describe data to you and you will need to know what kind of data it is and how it should be measured a. Qualitative i. Nominal b. Ranked i. Ordinal c. Quantitative i. Interval ii. Ratio 3. Recognize the difference between types of frequency distributions
