Special Problems for ME 200 – Spring 2010 Special Problems 27, 28, & 29 Due Friday, April 2, 2010 SP27: A closed rigid container filled with 45 kg of liquid water initially at 130 C is placed in a 90 m 3 room containing air at a pressure of 1 bar and a temperature of 27 C. Heat transfer occurs between the container and room until thermodynamic equilibrium is achieved. Assume that the room is well-sealed and perfectly insulated, that water remains liquid throughout the process, that the specific heats for air and water are constant, and that the volume of the water container is small compared to volume of the room. (a) Explain whether temperature at the equilibrium condition would be close to either 27 C or 130 C. (b) What is the temperature ( C) at the equilibrium condition?
