Selfish Parents When maximizing their rational choice, I believe the Americans fall into that category with 84% splitting their inheritance among their children. Until it came to giving the Money to the children that agreed to take care of the parents in their elderly years. Then the percentage for the Americans dropped drastically and for the Japanese their percentage increased. According to Adam Smiths writings from the Wealth of Nations, Mr. Smith wrote, “Give me that which I want, and you shall have that which you want,” so from that saying, I am inclined to believe Mr. Smith would agree with the Selfish form. I will agree to leave you my money if you agree to take care of me in my older years. Mr. Smith goes on to say, “By specializing in the production of goods in which they have a comparative advantage, they will produce the most goods they can. They can then trade with other people who specialize in the production of other goods.” Hence, you have barter, and trading. Almost human nature to give something in order to get something
