Leading edge flaps vs. Slats Te primary function of flaps is lift augmentation. Flaps are located at the trailing edge of the wing as well as on the leading edge. we will discuss about the leading edge flaps. Flaps at the leading edge can be: 1. Slats 2. Leading edge flaps The purpose of both are same but they are different in there mechanical design as well as there location at leading edge of the wing. Leading edge flaps are present under the leading edge i.e. they are inboard and when they are actuated, they expand from the bottom surface and become the leading edge.
