Adolfo 1 Maricar Adolfo Sociology 001 Professor Ghazarian 17 October 2019 Project 3: Immigrant’s Impact on Society Immigration issues today are headlining due to President Trump’s plan to change policies to keep immigrants out of the United States. His focus is mainly the Latinos or Hispanics which is why he is really pushing for a wall boundary that will help with a stricter policy for immigrants. Social inequality peaks a little bit when it comes to this issue. Some people such as children had no control over their migration to the United Sates. Now that they are older, they are to face the issues that are presented to them in terms of immigration. In the United States, immigrants make up about 40 million of the population which consist of 46% who are Hispanic or Latino, 19.2% who are Non-Hispanic white and 26.3% who are Asian according to the Census Bureau. It has been a norm in the past few years that we hear immigration issues. It served its ups and downs throughout the decade but as long as President Trump is in office, he will keep pushing for stricter immigration policies. The society especially those who fall into the immigrant category had been on their toes. According to News – India Times, Ponnuru states that, “Trump won that contest after saying he would deport all illegal immigrants over a two-year period.” This public issue will definitely affect millions of people and may not have control over the situation. President Trump’s dominant ideology of keeping immigrants away from opportunities has set the society in a way where their future in on the line. What happens when most immigrants will be at risk for deportation or losing their jobs or even having to leave their family behind? Immigration policies should not be as strict but instead, it must be improved to allow immigrants to gain more opportunities because they positively impact our economy, create jobs for people and they enable the capacity to share ideas to enhance America. Immigrants play a vital role in the economy in the United Sates. Some people think that immigrants are taking away jobs from United States citizens. According to USA Today, it mentions that, “The U.S. Department of Labor's breakdown of employment shows that about 25,000,000 people in the U.S. workforce (16.7%) are immigrants.” These 25 million immigrants are actually keeping the economy going. When people migrate to the United States, some may face culture shock. As mentioned in The Christian Science Monitor, Grier proves that, “Polls show majorities want immigrants to learn English and adapt to American cultural values.” For some immigrants, they are not familiar with the American culture which causes them struggle when they attend schools. They may have had to take additional classes to obtain a level of
