1 Course Description - FREN 2120 Grammar Review and Introduction to Reading II – Spring 2010 PREREQUISITES l ½ yr. of college French or 3 or more units of high school French or placement by online exam @ http://www.colorado.edu/aac/placement.html TEXTBOOKS Bien vu, bien dit (main text) + Bien vu, bien dit Workbook/Lab Manual, Vol.2 (one copy on RESERVE in Norlin Library) DESCRIPTION Welcome to Intermediate French! This class is designed for students who have already studied but who do not control with 90% or better accuracy basic elements of grammar including the comparative and superlative, the conditional, the subjunctive, participles, and relative pronouns. This course reviews the above structures which are impossible to master the first time they are studied and also introduces more verbs, pronouns and vocabulary absolutely essential to communicating beyond the novice level in all skill areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Classes are interactive; attendance and active participation are the key factors in determining how much progress is made. OBJECTIVES • To use and understand intermediate-level vocabulary and grammar. • To discuss personal and social topics with increasing grammatical accuracy and speed. • To comprehend the main ideas of the film Le Chemin du retour on which the textbook is based. • To understand the main ideas of texts and web- sites designed for French native speakers. • To participate in discussions on chapter themes and readings. • To write papers on these themes. • To know your cultural heritage and that of French speakers around the world better.
