In the beginning you think Jerry is a poor listener because he is remarkably successful and has a large number of clients. However, Jerry remains negligent even after he loses his job and has only one client. Several types of ineffective listening styles can be observed. Communication is essential in any relationship, whether it is a partner, work, kids, or interpersonal. The characters in the movie learn that it is just not hearing what someone is saying, but listening to them. When Jerry is on the phone with his client, Rod Tidwell, you see the first example of ineffective listening. The listening style of stage hogging comes to play when Jerry said, “Hey Rod, how are you doing?” Rod goes into a rant about his contract.
