George Washington George Washington was born to Augustine Washington and his second wife, Mary Ball Washington in Westmoreland County, Va., on February 22, 1732. He was the couple’s oldest son. His family was fairly wealthy, and George received a basic education as a child. In 1754, he joined the French and Indian War. He however lost his battle against the French and was forced to surrender and march his troops back home. He promptly resigned after his defeat because of frustration and lack of pay....
