Introduction The sweeteners experiment was done to work together with my lab partner in order to test different commonly used sweeteners for the presence of aspartame. First we determined which presence of aspartame in the sweeteners with spot testing. We then were able to determine the quantitative content of the aspartame in the sweetener in order to compare it with the manufacturer’s claim. We used MeasureNet’s colorimeter to carry out a quantitative determination of the amount of aspartame in the commercial sweetener. We were then able to use the experimental data and Lambert-Beer’s Law to make a plot using a series of standard solutions we prepared with the aspartame sweetener. We then were able to prepare and measure solutions of the commercial sweetener containing aspartame. Comparison of the absorbance of these solutions with the Beer’s Law plot enabled us to determine the amount of aspartame present. This experiment connected to
