Nick Andriola Hisp 200 Assignment 8 Forum Journal “In ‘hot neighborhoods’ in many cities, smaller houses are snatched up, demolished, and replace by ‘McMansions’ a permanent replacement of the more affordable with the never affordable” (Rypkema, 7) In this quote, Rypkema discusses one of the main reasons why the housing market seems to be too expensive for low-income families or families in general. Because what is happening in the cities is that old affordable houses are being torn down to build multi-million dollar houses that only the upper-middle class, and the upper class can afford. When the houses that were torn down were lower-middle class to lower class homes. He says that to fix the housing problem, we need to preserve historic districts and buildings, because he says these are the most economically, socially, and racially diverse areas. In cities, districts might be racially diverse but they are economically segregated, there is always up town, down town, and the ghettos. This
