Devun Pahwa HISP200-0102 2/18/10 Dr. B.D. Wortham-Galvin Hearth and Home “Today, the site’s pre-1960’s history is almost invisible.” -pg 3 In this quote the author, George W. McDaniel, describes how the land where the tenant house once stood is now unnoticeable because of the changes that have occurred on the same land. The land went from farming land and changed into offices and is surrounded by traffic as a result of a highway being placed there. Now the tenant house is placed in the Smithsonian, but I believe, even though it is in a museum now, that the true historical value and authenticity has been partially destroyed; especially since they made changes with the structure of the house so that it can fit in the museum. I feel like to truly preserve something like this and to teach people about the tenant house’s history then the surroundings must be provided with the house. Otherwise what a visitor sees is truly an incomplete picture. So even though it is good to
