Wortham-Galvin Nobrow “‘Ralph Lauren offends me’”-- Father pg 51 In this quote the father states this because he sees this brand of clothing as a threat to his identity. This is because the clothes that he wears are the same Ralph Lauren advertises except they try to make the look available to everyone. This means people who do not share the same values and live the same lifestyle the father has can wear the same clothes. So he believes because the other person who does not have that aristocrat values like he does, but dresses as him threatens his image and identity. He feels like these fake aristocrats can bring a negative impression upon him by others. So he hates the clothing lines that allow people to dress out of their values and imitate a different identity. I believe that material culture and having so many brand names might threaten some identities, but the positive is it creates more new identities....
