Running head: MMHS RECYCLING INDUSTRIES PROGRAM 1 The GreenWorks Program at Mundy’s Mill High School Idara E. Ibanga Georgia Military College
MMHS GREENWORKS PROGRAM 2 I chose to compose a scratch list/outline as my brainstorming technique to generate ideas for my issue. The outline will focus on topics I wish to cover throughout my paper. Urban recycling can be challenging because the school community is not properly educated on the topic. Each of my subcategories targets the outreach of recycling, i.e. social media, paper methods, and broadcasting networks, which will increase student engagement, and therefore increase recycling rates. Title: Why does the school community opt to discard excess waste rather than recycling them to become new goods? I. Faculty, staff, and students are not educated about the benefits of recycling. A. An active social media account encourages the school community to recycle. One of the main objectives of the account would be to educate the school community about the benefits of recycling. According to Town of Irondequoit (n.d.), “Reusing discarded products and using recycled materials to make new products reduces the use of virgin materials, which often involves harvesting trees and mining the earth. Even better, ‘source reducing’ waste — or avoiding the generation of discards in the first place — saves the most resources of all.” B. Since this is the age of digital technology, attracting a younger audience is an advantage. Teenagers can tell their parents about things they learned about
