Lauren Napolitano February 2, 2010 POS 410: Assignment 1 Cleveland, Ohio is a city with a rich background and a diverse culture. At one point it was a major mecca for businessmen in the United States. However, in recent years the booming city has come to a grinding halt. The video we watched in class examined the city of Cleveland, Ohio. It took us through its history briefly, but mainly focused on its demise, and begged the question of whether Cleveland could be saved. There are several obstacles that Cleveland must overcome in order to regain its status as a prevalent city that people desire to live in. Back in the early to mid twentieth century, people began leaving city life for life in the suburbs. According to the video, between 1960 and 2000, the population of Cleveland was cut in half. On top of population woes, 195 acres of industrial land was left unused or vacant, and over 3 million square feet of office space was left unused or vacant.
