   Spring 2010 CEE 291 – PROBLEM SOLVING USING COMPUTER TOOLS Homework 1 Solve these problems using Excel. Copy and Paste solutions and work into a Word  document with problems and solutions clearly identified.  Assignment is due on Wednesday  (1/27) in class. Problem 1   - Excel Plotting and Curve Fitting In a new Excel Workbook, add the data set in Table 1. Table 1: Data for curve fitting problem 1 x y 1 10 12 19 19 33 34 40 42 49 51 57 Part (a)  Create an X-Y scatter plot of the data in the same Worksheet, be sure to  format the  Figure .  Add a  Linear Regression  and show the equation and R 2  on the chart. Part (b)  Create another figure, but on this one add a  Power  regression, again be sure to put the  equation and R 2  on the chart. Part (c)  Create a third figure, but on this one add a  Cubic ( 3 rd -order polynomial) regression,  again be sure to put the equation and R 2  on the chart. Part (d)  Create a fourth figure, but on this one add a  4 th -order polynomial  regression, again be  sure to put the equation and R 2  on the chart. Part (e)  Use the equations for the 4 regressions that you performed to predict the y-value for x =  25, 70, 100, and 150 Questions:  Copy all of your plots into a single word file.  In that same word file answer the  following questions.
