IMPACT OF A HAZARDOUS SPILL ON WATER SUPPLIES A roadway bridge crosses the Idyllic River, which flows west to east. A truck carrying hazardous material (1,3-megadeath or some other nasty liquid chemical) crosses the bridge. On a patch of black ice, the driver loses control; the truck crashes through the guardrail and falls into the river. Before hazardous-material response crew can gain control of the problem, the hazardous liquid seeps from the truck into the river at a rate of E = 200 kg h -1 for a period of 10 h, as illustrated below.
