Unformatted text preview: Education • Education is mandatory up to a certain age • Public primary and secondary schools are fully funded • Offered at all levels from pre-kindergarten to graduate school • Large numbers of both public and private institutions Mexico Population • In July of 2000 Mexico’s population was estimated to be in excess of 100 million • The 3 major ethnicities in Mexico include: Mestizo (Amerindian Spanish) 60%, Amerindian 30%, and Caucasians 9% • The major religion is Roman Catholic, representing 89% of the population • A lesser religion is the Protestant religion, practiced by 6% of the population • Spanish is the official language of Mexico Education • The Secretariat of Public Education in Mexico is in charge of all levels of education • Federal funding devoted to education is remarkably high for a middle class country...
