February 1, 2010 – May 21, 2010 BA621 Business Law Lesson #6 Assignment #2 Lesson #6, Assignment #2: Critical Thinking About the Law The following questions (found on page 373 of your text) will help you think critically about the link between property rights and power. 1) If a group of politicians passed a law to increase protection of property rights, what ethical norm probably led to this legislation? Clue: Review the list of ethical norms in Chapter 1. Which ethical norm seems most likely to cause increased protection of property? Security or justice. I chose security because more property protection means that property owners will not have to fear losing their property or paying excessively to keep it. They will be safe from government’s meddling. Of course this also negatively affects the security of those who are not property owners, as there is only so much property to go around and now the unprivileged ones will find it harder to gain property.
