February 1, 2010 – May 21, 2010 BA621 Business Law Lesson #8 Assignment #4 Lesson #8, Assignment #4: WSJ Critical Thinking Exercise Download and read the The Wall Street Journal article entitled "Fairness and the Unions" by clicking HERE . What issue does the editorial present? Compulsory union dues are used towards a PAC that routinely sponsors a liberal agenda. The author’s problem with this is that. Prop 226 will condemn these practices, forcing unions to allow members to voluntarily contribute from their paycheck. The bill will provide protection to union members’ paychecks while limiting the power of unions to control the vote. What is the conclusion? What are the main reasons in support of the conclusion? Because this ill-gotten money has been used time and time again to push an agenda, even after precedent setting case (Beck) against the practice, the McCain-Feingold bill should be passed so that union members are not ripped off. The unions have worked hard to continue spending money so that they can continue leeching off of union member dues.
