Chapter 1 Review Questions 1. What does the word “ processing” in data processing mean? Processing in “data processing” means “changing and/or manipulating”. Data processing is the process of changing raw material into information. 4. Give three examples of subsystems not operating in the context of IT. Why are these considered subsystems not systems? 1. One example of a subsystem is a departments in a retail store. Each department (Women’s, Kids, Shoes, Accessories, and etc.) have their own sells and task goals, however; each department sell goal is a sell sub-goal of a larger system ( the entire store)w hose foal is to have a profit. 2. Accounting department, Admissions and records, Advising department and etc.are all subsystems in a university and each have goals that come together to achieve the university goals. 3. The different branches in government ( Judicial Branch , Executive Branch and Legislative Branch) These are all subsystems because they all are parts of a larger system and achieve goals
