E-Journal #1 2 important: 1. The first main idea I find to be important is the Language Experience Approach. It means the learners themselves initiate their own experiences through interactive activities. The project-based learning( experiential learning) introduced on page 50. This concept can help students to improve their understanding of concepts and theories through activities such as hands-on projects, field trips or extra-class dinner groups, etc. I believe this approach is useful and effective for beginning learners because it encourages students to explore, think, and talk. Also, it gives many opportunities to expand learners' vocabulary. This approach can be related to learner-centered instruction, which means offering opportunities for learners to participate in a classroom activity without fear of being scolded by an instructor. (p51) 2. The second main idea I find to be important is to Encourage Learners to Do Language. (p100) The language teachers should help students to develop negotiation strategies for constructing their new norms and identities that would align harmoniously with their desirable environment. When the student participates in a real situation or real-life practice activities, it will allow them to learn a language easily. 2 interesting: 1. The first concept that I found interesting is in chapter 5, “Allow Learners’ Voice to Develop.” This section talks about the teachers need to support students when they wish to express their voices, ideas, and opinions through class activities. The main purpose of this paragraph is to let learners’ voices be heard in their use of language. I agree that the teacher should build a comfortable environment to provide opportunities for students to speak up and share their ideas. This will make the students gain confidence and improve their language skills. 2. The second concept that I found interesting is “languaculture.” This term includes not only grammar and vocabulary but also past knowledge and cultural information, habits, and behaviors. I believe that adopting a new culture is complicated because there are many rules to understand things such as attitudes, values, norms, and beliefs. However, learning a new language is to communicate and share ideas so learners should have the background knowledge and understand what is going on in other people's cultures.
