Wk 2, DQ 1 What are some of the ways these two digestive problems can be remedied or relieved? The two digestive issues I selected were ulcers and hemorrhoids. Ulcers are lesions within the stomach and intestines. They can sometimes remedied by eliminating offensive substances such as alcohol, certain medications, and tobacco. In more serious cases ulcers require medication or even surgery (Mohan, 2008). Hemorrhoids are equally uncomfortable digestive problems which are a result of difficult bowel movements which irritate and cause swelling of rectal veins. Hemorrhoids may be minimized by maintaining a diet high in fiber and by maintaining hydration. They may be treated through taking hot baths, using ice packs, minimizing irritation to the anal area, and resting. More serious hemorrhoid cases may be treated with inpatient surgical and nonsurgical procedures (Levine, 2008). Do you think home remedies might work better than some of the suggested treatment methods you have read about? Why or why not?
