Unformatted text preview: Lab 6: Oscilloscope Staci Williams Nicole Harty, Kevin Schesing, Caitlin Kubota Section 015 Theory: Oscilloscopes can measure properties of a periodic voltage such as shape, peak-to-peak amplitude, and period. A slowly varying periodic voltage can be observed on a voltage meter, with a vertical axis for voltage and a horizontal axis for time. The interval in which plotting occurs is P= t2- t1, and from t2 until t3 for a value of time N plotting does not occur. At point t3 it is at the same point as VT, and will start being plotted again at the horizontal axis point t1, with the second plotting overlaying the first curve, which would fade away otherwise. This process continues, with every time the plotting paper stops at t2 it is resumed after time N at t1 when the voltage reaches the value VT. When hit by electrons the phosphor emits light at the place where the electrons strike the phosphor, allowing a curve to be seen, with the light fading away with time as the electrons are not continuously striking it.
