Physics 263 Mohand Shalaby Experiment – 5 a) Ideal Gas Law, b) Heat Engine 1. Introduction: Part (a) of this experiment is about Ideal Gas Law which relates pressure, volume and temperature by: = PV NkT . In this experiment we will look at the relation between pressure and temperature keeping the volume constant. Part (b) of this experiment is using a heat engine to raise a mass of 200g. Taking appropriate readings to form a P –V diagram, the work done (area under graph) by the heat engine is compared with the change in potential energy of the mass. = ∆U mg∆Z 2. Apparatus: For this experiment we used the apparatus shown in Fig1 and Fig2 for parts a & b.
