bio lecture 4: angiosperms gymnosperms, invented seed. seed: megasporangium surrounded by a seed coat with an embryo sporangium with spore that forms a mega gametophyte. mega gametophyte inside mega sporangium the cones are small till fertilization then they grow at their "normal" size developes teh protection of seed even before fertilization. ovule: unfertilized seed embryo is then surrounded by a mature seed coat and is no longer an ovule. differences; seeds. antheridia have been lost. no motile sperm. retained the archegonium. Angiosperms: fruit and flower bearing plants provide extra protection for seeds, developed 2 new structures called fruit and flower. Fruit; taken on additional function to protect the seed that is in the center. flower: a axis which is determinate = limited lifetime of growth = also arranged along this axis are teh parts that make teh flower. Determinate axis (flower): we find taht at the lower most structure of teh flower, there are a set of appendages that are usually green (sepals) then one appendage up is the
