Eduardo Barajas SID# 20613036 10/20/08 Col.Writ.R1A Heather Kirn READ ALL ABOUT IT American newspapers such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times can manipulate the thoughts of their audience by simply using their credibility. They have gained their credibility from being one of the main sources of news and information for people across the state and across the nation. As a result, these newspapers play an important role in the 2008 presidential election by having the ability to goad their audience’s minds in order to favor their candidate of their choice. Through analyzing The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times, it has become apparent that all three newspapers highly favor the democratic candidate Barack Obama. The New York Times is a daily-published newspaper that is distributed internationally. Along with their close to 1.5 million readers across the world, The New York Times has also won the Pulitzer Prize, regarded as “the highest national honor in newspaper journalism.” 98 times. (1). This accredited publication was transitioned to support the Democratic Party and was “ insufficiently critical of the George W. Bush Administration” in the articles covering the Iraq war. (1). stands on political issues, it is clear that Barack Obama is highly favored on the articles. Although there is no significant difference in the number of articles between the two candidates, the contents of the articles are drastically different when referring to each candidate. The Photographs of both candidates are different by that McCain is always seen as a close shot or as though he were busy. Obama on the other hand Obama is always shot with the background showing and shot from below to give him an angelic and warm feel with his audience. Obama is always spoken of as being calm and taking criticism without having to argue. McCain on the other hand is talked about negatively in mostly all the articles. In Palin: Obama Is ‘Palling Around With Terrorists’, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is commenting on Obama’s affiliation with William C. Ayers, a former member of the radical Weathermen.
