Linux is not only an operating system. Linux is the software on a computer that enables applications and the computer operator to access the devices on the computer to perform desired functions. Also, it is a clone of Unix operating systems but unlike many versions of Unix, most versions of Linux are free. The operating system relays instructions from an application to the computers processor. The processor performs the instructed tasks, then sends the results back to the application via the operating system (2010 Linux). In 1991 Linus Torvald, a student at University of Helsinki in Finland, developed the Linux Kernel. It was released on the internet and was freely available for download. Linux distribution is a precompiled and prepackaged verison of Linux. It may offer certain features and software applications that others do not. Popular Linux Distribution include Red Hat, Fedora, SUSE, Debian, Ubuntu, Slackware,
