First Four Gods: Gaea, Eros, Tartarus, Chaos 3 Dynasties: Zeus and Hera, their bros and sisters the Olympians, overthrow their parents Zeus: king of the gods, ruler of heaven, most powerful but not infallible or all powerful. -God of sky and weather( rain, thunder, lightning). Weapon- thunderbolt -assoc with justice and kingship, measures fate with scales -many children mortals/gods, over 160 -guardian of order and hospitality Hera: Queen of heaven, wife/sister of Zeus -patron of marriage, often jealous wife -can be vindictive towards Zeus’ lovers -In the Iliad favors the Greeks Poseidon: bro of Zeus, God of the sea, earthquakes -created horses -father of many monsters - In the Iliad fights for the Greeks Demeter: Goddess of fertility, agric, nature, the seasons -Her and Zeus had Persephone Hestia: sister of Zeus, one of virgin goddesses -Goddess of the hearth, assoc w/ the home
