The Duke Honor Code will apply to all exams, quizzes, homeworks, and labs (within the bounds described in the Lab Overview). Your typical week should look like the following: • Monday : start reading the material relevant for the lectures of that week (this is specified in section 8.2); turn in Homework from the previous week before 1:00 pm. • Tuesday : lecture, start assigned problems for that week • Wednesday : continue working on assigned problems for that week • Thursday : lecture; finish assigned problems; recitation (for sections 1 – 4 and section 9) • Friday : recitation (for sections 5 – 8 and section 10) • Labs : you will attend one of the lab sessions on either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. • Help Room : Wed Thu Sun 8:00 – 10:00 pm, Sat 3:00 – 5:00 pm in Room 150. 1.1 Text The required text for the course is Physics for Scientists and Engineers (either 3rd or 4th Edition, Vol. 1) , by Douglas C. Giancoli, Pearson / Prentice Hall. This will be packaged with the student Study Guide at the Duke bookstore. You may wish to purchase the package having the Study Guide and Volumes 1 and 2 for further savings if you intend to take PHY54 in the Spring semester. There is no need to by the PRS transmitter, if it is offered, as we will not use it. 2 Instructional Staff The course will be taught by five faculty members (lecturer, recitation instructors, lab administra- tor), one graduate instructor, and five teaching assistants.
