Metabolites are the intermediate and final products that result from bacterial metabolism. There are two types of metabolites. Primary metabolites are required in the growth and reproduction of an organism and secondary metabolites provide some sort of ecological function such as antibiotics or pigments. There exist some metabolites that can be utilized in the production of compounds like bio-fuels that can be used to in the daily lives of people. The purpose of this experiment was to observe if metabolite expression had changed under different conditions. This also included determining if certain metabolites are down regulated or not even produced because of the condition change. The condition that was changed in the experiment was the presence light. One culture was completely exposed to a light source and the other culture will at a certain point had the light source blocked from itself. The predicted outcome is that there would be a discernable difference in the production of different types of metabolites in each culture. Materials and Methods: To start, two separate cultures of Synechocystis 6803 cultures were inoculated in 100mL of premade BG-11 medium inside two separate Kimax milk dilution bottles. Besides the growth medium and the bacterial culture, a stir bar magnet was included to agitate the cultures while they were growing. The bottles were then capped with a stopper that had a collection tube for collecting samples to test optical density, an internal/external air hose with a HEPA filter which was used to introduce CO 2 to the cultures, and a third tube to allow the pressure to remain constant in the bottle by releasing excess air. Once the cultures were ready, they were placed into a heated aquarium of water for incubation and both cultures exposed to 60-80 µmol m
