I believe the thesis statement is in the middle of the first paragraph. Simon Elegant asks, “So is China — the "fragile superpower," as historian Susan Shirk memorably termed it — about to experience the one thing its leaders have feared for years: a so-called hard landing of its economy that could spark widespread social unrest” ? The author uses political bias to blame China’s government for the problems in China.

Unformatted text preview: China being a communist country gives the author ammunition against them. Using facts is what makes the article viable to me. The use of percentages and any fact based information makes it more believable for me. I do not know where he got the percentages, but the fact that he uses them throughout the article keeps me more interested in the article....
