Developing Good Business Sense The first company I am going to write about is Metavation LLC. This company is in Traverse City, Michigan. Metavation makes the finished knuckle for the GM 1500 Silverado Pickup and Hummer. The company is now run on three shifts with 30 hourly employees and five management. At the company’s highest time it had 450 employees. Now with the economy being down in the automotive industry, the company had to lay- off its work force and will be closing its doors on April 30, for good. Per Jamie Proboda, Supervisor, the costs or raw materials and components to make the parts are $13.44 per casting and there are 200 castings per basket. There is usually 3800 sets (left and right) on the floor. The O-rings that go onto the casting after it is finished being milled are nine cents each and there are 200 per bag, 1600 per box. Eight boxes of O-rings are on the floor. The machines that make these sets average $200,000 a piece and there are four machines. The tooling and inserts in all the machines is around $5000. The building is around $250,000. The computers are around $5000 total for 10 computers. Per Ted Smith, Quality Manager, the employees are paid $13.30 for machine operators, Quality makes $16.15, Set-up makes $17.50 , Maintenance makes $21.00 and Management makes a salary, to which is not reveled. The company pays $1055.00 for a family plan and $639.00 for individual plan for insurance for the employees. Per John Lemcool, Supervisor, the customer pays for distributing cost to deliver the
