A current issue between the Native Americans and the federal government is health care reform. On March 21, 2010, Historic national health care legislation, which includes reauthorization of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act, has passed Congress and received President Obama's signature to make it law. The final vote was 219- 212. Not one Republican voted in favor of the bill and 34 Democrats also voted against it. The Indian Health Care Improvement Act was first made law in 1976 was to implement the federal responsibility for the care and education of the Indian people by improving the services and facilities of federal Indian health programs and encouraging maximum participation of Indians in such programs and for other purposes. ( Indian Health Care 2000) Under the Health Care Reform Act that was just signed by President Obama is expected to provide health coverage to almost 32 million
