Phil Haddad MUS 100 Instructor: Dr. Gregory Hutter Concert Report Founded in 1891the Symphony Center is one of Chicago’s most prominent fine music buildings. Located at 220 South Michigan Ave. this building is decorated with many features that add to the beauty of the building, such as limestone and marble flooring interior. Daniel Burnham being one the greatest architects in America’s history graced this building with his classical Gregorian Style architecture, that easily noticeable upon entrance of the building. Everything from the entrance to the center stage shouts true Daniel Burnham architecture. After three major renovations the building has now grown into a magnificent three complex structure that is today hosting some of the biggest orchestras and symphonies that come to Chicago. The Symphony Center hosts two orchestras, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Sinfonietta. I have not yet seen the CSO perform but I was able to attend Stephen Kovacevich’s performance on the piano on February 28. Stephen Kovacevich was born on October 17, 1940 in Los Angeles, California.
